1. Who this policy covers
This policy explains how this website (“AIPrivacyLawyers.com,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you visit this website, search the directory, apply to be listed as an attorney, or contact us about advertising.
AIPrivacyLawyers.com is a legal directory. We are not a law firm, we do not provide legal advice or legal services, and using this site does not create an attorney-client relationship with us. This policy covers our handling of your information only — it doesn’t cover what an attorney you contact through the directory does with information you send them directly, which is governed by that attorney’s own privacy practices.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us directly
- Attorney applications: name, firm name, email address, states of admission, practice focus, and anything you write in the application message.
- Advertising and media kit inquiries: name, company, email address, what you’re interested in advertising, and any message you send us.
- General correspondence: anything you email us directly, such as questions or support requests.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and log data: standard server log information such as IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps, collected automatically when you use the site.
- Cookies: a session cookie used to keep an administrator logged in to the admin dashboard.
- Fonts loaded from Google: this site loads typefaces from Google Fonts, which involves your browser making a request to Google’s servers. Google may log that request, including your IP address, subject to Google’s own privacy policy.
3. What becomes public
If you’re an attorney applying to be listed
If your application is approved, the information in your profile — your name, firm name, email address, states of admission, practice areas, and the bio or description you provide — is published on the public directory and can be viewed, searched, and indexed by search engines. Don’t include anything in your application that you don’t want to be public.
You can ask us to update or remove your published profile at any time by contacting us using the details in Section 14. We aim to act on removal requests promptly, though cached or archived copies of a page (for example, in a search engine’s cache) are outside our control.
4. How we use information
- To review attorney applications and, if approved, publish and maintain your directory listing
- To respond to advertising and media kit inquiries, and to manage any resulting ad placements or featured listings
- To respond to general questions and correspondence
- To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the site
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or misuse of the application and inquiry forms
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use application or inquiry information for purposes unrelated to those listed above without asking you first.
However, we retain the right to sell, transfer, or assign this website, its business assets, or the directory platform in the future (for example, in the event of a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or reorganization). In such cases, user data stored on our platform may be transferred to the acquiring entity as part of the business assets, subject to the condition that the acquiring party agrees to honor the privacy protections established in this policy.
5. How we share information
We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Published directory listings: as described in Section 3, approved attorney profiles are public by design.
- Service providers: companies that help us run the site — for example, hosting providers, and, if and when we add them, email-delivery or payment-processing providers — under obligations to protect your information and use it only to provide services to us.
- Legal reasons: if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we believe in good faith it’s necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of AIPrivacyLawyers.com, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: if we’re involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy or a successor policy.
6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies to collect and analyze information about user behavior on our website, track site performance, and improve your overall browsing experience.
1. What Types of Cookies Do We Use?
-
- Strictly Necessary Cookies: These are essential for our website to function properly. They are set automatically through our hosting provider, Hostinger, to secure our server environment, manage user sessions, and accurately load digital assets. These do not track personal identifying information and cannot be disabled.
- Performance and Analytics Cookies: We utilize Google Analytics, a web analysis service provided by Google LLC, to gather anonymous data on how visitors interact with our site (e.g., page views, time spent on pages, and device types).
2. How Google Analytics Processes Data
Google Analytics uses first-party cookies to assign a random Client ID to your browser session. This data includes your shortened (anonymized) IP address and technical device data, which is transmitted to and stored on Google servers, including servers located in the United States.
-
- We use Google Analytics to better understand site traffic and optimize our platform layout.
- Google uses this data as our data processor and does not combine this data with other personal information unless you explicitly grant cross-site permissions.
- For complete details on how Google handles data, you can review the Google Analytics Data Safeguards Documentation.
3. Managing Your Cookie Preferences and Consent
We respect your privacy preferences and provide multiple avenues to control tracking technologies:
-
- Cookie Consent Banner: In accordance with global data protection laws (including GDPR and CCPA), non-essential performance and analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics) are blocked by default and will only deploy if you click “Accept” or modify your preferences on our cookie banner.
- Browser Settings: You can configure your web browser to reject cookies completely or alert you when a cookie is being sent.
- Google Analytics Opt-Out: You can permanently prevent Google Analytics from tracking your visits across all websites by installing the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
7. Data retention
- Approved attorney listings: retained for as long as your profile remains listed, plus a reasonable period afterward for our records, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
- Rejected or withdrawn applications: retained for 12 months to allow for reapplication and internal recordkeeping, then deleted.
- Advertising inquiries: retained for as long as reasonably needed to respond to your inquiry and, if you become an advertiser, for the duration of that relationship plus standard business recordkeeping.
- Server logs: retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting purposes, then routinely deleted or anonymized.
8. Your privacy choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, which can include the right to know what we’ve collected about you, to request a copy of it, to request correction or deletion, or to object to certain uses. This can include rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), to the extent those laws apply to us and to you.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 14. We’ll respond within the time required by applicable law, and may need to verify your identity before acting on certain requests.
9. Children’s privacy
This site is intended for attorneys, businesses, and adults seeking legal counsel. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we collect. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, though, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.
11. Third-party links
Attorney profiles and other pages may link to third-party websites, such as a listed attorney’s firm website. We aren’t responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to review their policies before providing them with information.
12. International visitors
This site is operated from California, United States. If you access it from another country, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in a country with different data protection laws than your own.
Our website is hosted by Hostinger. Hostinger provides the online infrastructure that allows us to operate our site. Your data may be stored through Hostinger’s servers, databases, and general applications. They store your data on secure servers behind a firewall. For more details, you can read Hostinger’s Privacy Policy at hostinger.com.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “last updated” date at the top of this page, and where appropriate, provide additional notice.
